Open government is the governing doctrine which holds that citizens have the right to access the documents and proceedings of the government to allow for effective public oversight. Mercer County fully supports transparency, public participation, and collaborative improvements that promote efficiency and effectiveness in government. Through the enactment of the Open Public Records Act (OPRA), citizens are now given greater access to all records at the state, county, and local levels, and real-time data readily available to the public.
