Nutrition Program for Older Adults
Access to healthy nutrition is essential to one's well-being, regardless of age. The Mercer County Nutrition Program for Older Adults offers appetizing meals that are served in settings that bring people together for activities and social interaction, important aspects of everyone's lives. The program is open to anyone 60 years old or older and their spouses (regardless of age), any county resident with a disability whose primary caregiver is a program participant, anyone volunteering in the program, and the personal care aides of program participants (when they accompany a participant to the site where meals are provided). This federally funded program encourages participants to make a suggested donation of $1 for their daily meal.
Our caterer prepares a complete lunch daily Monday through Friday that includes an appetizer, main entrée, vegetables, bread, beverage, and dessert and delivers them to our nutrition sites. All meals are specifically planned by a qualified nutritionist to provide at least one-third of an older person's daily nutritional needs.
The Nutrition Program also arranges services including nutrition education/nutrition counseling and other health, educational, and recreational programs.
Sites are closed on County and/or municipal holidays. Emergencies or inclement weather may cause nutrition sites to close. Every attempt to reach participants will be made. Go to www.mercercounty.org for closure announcements.
Participants must register for the program by calling 609-989-6650. To access the November hot-meal menu, please click here.
