Heat advisories, sunburn prevention, and swimming precautions are common concerns especially during the summer months, but those who swim in pools, go in hot tubs, and/or work with pool chemicals must take chemical safety precautions.

The Mercer County Division of Public Health, in collaboration with the New Jersey Poison Information and Education System (NJPIES), is pleased to provide more information on pool chemical safety. If you have questions about pool chemicals, help is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, from NJPIES at 800-222-1222. All calls are free and confidential.

In addition, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC)’s Healthy Swimming website provides information about how to maximize the health benefits of swimming while minimizing the risk of illness and injury.
