Requirements for a County ID:

Please fill out the County ID application form (at link below). The applicant should not sign the application until applicant appears in person at the County Clerk’s Office in Trenton office.

  • Must be a US citizen, naturalized citizen, or resident alien (Current Identification Date Required)
  • Must be a Mercer County resident for at least 6 months (proof of residence is required)
  • Must produce the following:
    • Valid birth certificate (with raised seal) OR naturalization certificate OR valid resident alien card.
    • Valid NJ Motor Vehicle License OR a voter registration card OR lease agreement.

NOTE: If you are unable to produce proof of residency, you must be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or blood relative that lives at the same address. That person must meet the identification requirements as well as sign on your behalf, with a valid New Jersey State Identification or driver’s license.

  • Digital photos provided.
  • Fee of $20 or $15 for Senior (62 and older) for Residents, $10 for Veterans Card.
  • Mercer residents age of 16 and older may apply for the County ID Card.

Identification cards are processed while you wait at 209 S Broad St., 2nd floor, weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.

Veteran and Gold Star Parent Identification 

For Veteran Identification Card, the applicant's original DD-214 form (indication of Honorary Discharge) and proof of Mercer County residence must be provided (see application at bottom of page)

  *Gold Star ID cards are available to Gold Star Parents, who have lost a son or daughter in combat, following the passage of legislation. These ID cards are always FREE and please note that we will also record the discharge paperwork for free.

The Office of the County Clerk, located at 209 South Broad Street, Trenton, 2nd floor, began issuing the cards on March 19, 2018. Thanking and Honoring Our Veterans

The Mercer County Clerk would like to thank and honor our country's Veterans by offering four times per year "No Cost" Mercer County Veterans Identification Card.  Filing of DD-214 is always free, but during designated times, the Mercer County Veterans ID card will also be free. 

A DD-214 must accompany the application for a Veterans Identification Card application along with the proper Mercer County residence requirements (See and download the application below). 

In 2024 the following are the times to get a No-Cost Mercer County Veterans Identification:

  • MEMORIAL DAY - 5-20-24 TO 5-31-24
  • INDEPENDENCE DAY - 7-1-24 TO 7-12-24
  • VETRERANS DAY - 11-4-24 TO 11-15-24
  • PEARL HARBOR REMEMBRANCE DAY - 12-2-24 TO 12-13-24
